This accession consists of the personal correspondence, memoranda, subject files, and writings of Winfred Emory Allen, who served as Assistant Professor of Biology at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography from 1919 until his retirement in 1946. The papers include correspondence with William E. Ritter, Charles Atwood Kofoid, Henry Bryant Bigelow, J. McKeen Cattell and other distinguished scientists. The papers include records of the California Biological Feature Service. The CBFS was established in 1919 by Allen who wrote brief articles on biological topics and made these available to newspapers. The Allen Papers also include memoranda and reports on events at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
